New Free HT Subwoofer Upgrade
As of 1.22.2009 all finished HT subwoofers will ship with our Matte finish rather than our standard Odye coating.
Price will not go up on any models. This does include the A7-900 and large units where the upgrade for this finish was previously a few hundred dollars.
We are doing this for a few reasons.
1. Matte is more popular than Odye.
2. Odye is oil based and pretty harsh to work with.
3. Less finishes in paint = less set up. More gets painted in a day cutting down shipping times quickly.
4. Removes the upgrade cost from customers and rolls the better product out to everyone at the lowest cost.
Items this effects immediately are all HT cabinets.
100% customers of who have ordered the Odye finish have been upgraded free of charge. Any clients with open orders who paid up charge fee’s have been refunded for the up charge. If by any chance you didn’t see that happen on your account let us know and we’ll solve it quickly. Please e-mail sales@edesignaudio.com if you have a pending order and have paid the up charge.
New orders will be painted in our Matte finish. Odye will not be a option any longer.
Here are some comparison pictures.

Product pictures will slowly update as everything ships out to clients. For now. No more choices Odye vs. Matte. Matte is the standard finish at the same Odye price.
Here a very close up picture of some custom bookshelves with the new Matte finish we are producing on all cabinets.

We’re now also 100% in EFS production. You’ll notice EFS is now reflected on each HT subwoofer on our web site. With the new paint and superior wood we’re hoping at least a few folks out there will be very happy.

hmm, i clicked on a couple subs but didn’t see anything about EFS mentioned.
Also does this mean all the normal HT speakers are also being built with EFS? such as the A6-6T6 Towers?

John,
The EFS link can be found on each HT subwoofer product page as seen here :

The Full range cabinets are currently not produced in Iowa. Long term our plans are to bring that in house but for now we just can’t produce that quantity here. Those are currently manufactured from stocking MDF at our production partners facility. Once all the HT subwoofers are shipping same day as built in Iowa that will likely happen
This announcement only pertains to shipping HT subwoofers made at Elemental Designs in Iowa.

I’m glad you guys realize that the matte finish is a must. What’s next? Possibly veneer finish…? This is really great for upcoming clients. I wonder if i could’ve waited for such available matte finish and 13ov2 upgrade. I feel my A2-300 is outdated already with everything that you guys are doing. When are those dipole/bipole will be available mainstream? Lol, i wish i could trade in my a2-300 for the next upgrade if you guys know what i mean. Good luck with everything though! Go eD go!!!

For now I think we’re just going to concentrate on working to end these back orders until the problem is solved. I’m sure down the road a lot more will pop up here in terms of updates but for now our focus is primarily on production.
Dipoles however can be ordered at any time as a custom product

Is the primer underneath the matte finish different than that of the full range speakers?
I know I have scratched one of my 5Tc’s and there is white primer below it which was VERY noticable. Thankfully it was on the rear of the cabnit and won’t be seen since its mounted on a wall. I like the odye on my sub bc I know if something hits it or it gets bumped its a nearly indestructable finish. How durable is the matte comparably, if its not as strong I would recommend a non-white primer so if something does happen it won’t be as noticable. That would be my only hesitation personally to the matte.

Jason,
The paint is different as is the primer on the HT subwoofers than the full range cabinet. The pigment is the same in both layers.
The new matte is quite resilient and it’s a lot easier to clean than Odya was

Yay!. Looks great guys. I will be ordering a pair of subs soon, and possibly another pair of the custom full range cabs I got from you before. Can’t wait to see the new finish. Kent
