ICIX Meet 08 Product Releases & Changes

Since not everyone out there could make the ICIX Meet. We thought it would be a really good idea to put this information out there.

I’ll continue to update with some photo’s and videos as they are available. There are a LOT of updates to be made today and we are working very hard to make that all happen :) You’ll see a lot of this image today :

It will disappear item by item as the hundreds of new images are uploaded :)

Here is a very very basic overview. We’ll type it out below :)

  1. Chris Says:

    WOW. Sheesh, do you realize how bad of a case of upgradeitus everyone is going to have? Better cones+cooling on everything, new motors on the O series?

    So, TL;DR: better reliability on everything?

  2. dan Says:

    so much for simple naming conventions…just when we get used to the old

  3. Chris Says:

    I think this may end up being much easier to understand; we may resist the change at first, but once we get used to it, it’ll seem brilliant, I’m sure.

  4. Ben Milne Says:

    Here is a break down.

    e5.10.22 as a model #.

    e5 = Series

    10 = 10″ diameter

    .22 = Dual 2 Voice coils.

    e3.12.22 as a model #.

    e3 = Series

    12″ = 12″ diameter

    .22 = Dual 2 voice coils.

    This worked really well for us in the past and will be a REALLY easy thing to implement across series and drivers to make it a little easier than K, O, A, and what version and modifications are on what version.

    hopefully :)

  5. Travis Says:

    Will you guys be posting specs of the e5.10 & e5.12 before they are shipping?

  6. Chris Says:

    YOU’RE PUTTING A GASKET ON THE E3.6? SWEET!

  7. Chris Says:

    Whoa caps. My bad.

  8. jeremy Says:

    I have a question about the a7-350 besides the 1300 watt amp and 400 dollar jump in price whats new about it? does it have a better woofer or is it the same as the a5-350? or is it built like the a7-450 but besides the 18” woofer you get a 15” woofer and if so why is that design more beneficial than the a5-350’s design. This might be a stupid question but I just want to completely understand it

  9. Ben Milne Says:

    To Chris -

    Finally. Yes we are :)

    To Jeremy -

    The cabinet on the A7-350 is about twice the size. The driver is a in-house built underhung 15″ driver with a 3″ coil. It’s a larger speaker with a lot more weight and mass. Pretty much bigger all around with a lot more power.

    Output wise it’s pretty much a perfect middle man between the A5-350 and the A7-450.

    Not a stupid question at all. It’s a very good one. We’d invite anyone to please feel free to ask questions.

  10. Ryan Gonyer Says:

    What is the p7-650? Is it a dual 15″? Any new finishes coming soon?
    Thanks
    Ryan

  11. Alex Says:

    So… are those prototype/pre-productions going to be hitting the ebay auctions anytime soon? ;)

  12. Chris Says:

    Oh just wondering, why the odd spacing of the vents on the e5.10?

  13. Jim Jim Says:

    Do those e5.10 baskets look eeriely similar to the Audiopulse Epic driver to anyone else?

  14. Chuck Morris Says:

    There goes my bank account!!!!!! Can’t wait for specs. Lower Vas maybe?

  15. Alex Says:

    Ryan-

    The P7-650 are 13Av.2 Bass towers with an LT1300 amplifier. New finishes will be released in the upcoming months.

    Alex-

    These items will not likely be going on eBay any time soon.

    Chris-

    These are prototypes and do not look 100% cosmetically correct, the production versions will be symmetrically drilled.

  16. Ben Milne Says:

    Jim Jim,

    The e5-Series use a standard open tooling 12 spoke basket that is available from all primary speaker part vendors. It’s very costly to tool new baskets for each model as we did on the 13Av.2 so opted to use baskets readily available.

    The e5-Series basket is used by many companies as it offers nice clearances and good reliability. We also used this basket in 2003 with the ‘e’Series K drivers.

  17. David Says:

    Quick question…I am wondering what the A7-325 actually is…? I haven’t seen anything posted on this besides the little video. Also, I assume the A5S-350 is a sealed 15″? What are the time frames on these subs?

  18. charge Says:

    i like the subtle changes

  19. Matt S. Says:

    I love the new look. One big question regarding the e3 series. You say that it has the same parameters as the kv.2. You also state that in the designation e3.12.22= 12″. Is it a standard 12″ or the slightly bigger 12 like the 13kv.2? I ask because my 13kv.2 cone was destroyed by some junk in my trunk and I have a custom fiberglass box that I don’t want to part with.

  20. Joe from Tulsa Says:

    I’m glad the 13Av.2 is keeping its name for now… I know its rather hard for a n00b to comprehend the naming of the old subs… but I loved it… Now just to get my latest project including 2 13Av’s off the ground! :D I do like the new designs on the “O” series tho… The wifes car may just need a pair of e5.12.22’s just so I can demo those puppy’s! :D

  21. Nam Nguyen Says:

    anyone notice the big gap between the surround and the gasket on the e5.10???

    is that going to be fixed??

    I love the look of the 12 spoke baskets

  22. Ben Milne Says:

    Nam,

    That’s for picture purposes. I didn’t like the fitment of the stock ring for that basket so we’re tooling our own.

    Joe,

    Send pictures :)

    Matt S,

    The 13Kv.2 cutout will remain identical to the e3,12. The only change there is a modified tooling for more cooling under the spider landing. Gasket / basket remain the same dimensionally with respect to under the spider so depth will change ever so slightly.

  23. jon Says:

    why no mini amp yet? i think it would make a real nice sq10 package.

  24. Ben Milne Says:

    There was a very good questions in regards to the COMEX. Where did it go?

    In some cases it IS used as a dust cap. The primary advantages for us moving to this material from the standard PP is the mold style used to make those caps / cones can be modified in weight VERY easily which means we have a greater range of weight control.

    When the dust caps are used as dust caps the cones on the subwoofers on the e3 / e5 series will remain a PP. We’ve had such great reliability from them that there’s no reason to change it. I’m sure some remember the drama from the flat cone nomex days.

    This is a very good thing.

    When it comes to using COMEX as a material for the full range speaker it also works to our advantage because of not only the tensile strength of the material and it’s resistance to bending (which is commonly seen in paper cone mids) or denting (which is commonly seen in Al mids), but also weight control just the same.

    This is not to say a paper cone mid or Al cone mid isn’t good. This is just to say there are a lot of reasons we went with this material throughout the family. It made good sense.

    Obviously weight control and damping become much more important in a full range speaker than it is in a subwoofer. There’s just less margin for error.

    The fact that it looks cool is a nice byproduct as well. :)

  25. Ben Milne Says:

    Re: Fancy Wording

    You guys chose the wrong picture.

    Look all the way in. See what your looking for.

    It’s not fancy wording. Your just looking at the wrong picture to understand what is going on.

    Feel free to ask.

    The holes in the bottom are simply cooling. Nio3 has nothing to do with the holes in the bottom.
