RTA iPhone & Android Apps
Let me pre-face by saying I have very little personal experience with these applications directly but it’s always good to share
Most of the assistance we do over the phone with a RTA is pretty generic with the Radio Shack solution. During this weekend’s meet a few new options came in front of us we wanted to share. We always like to share new tools. Especially the free ones.
The iPhone RTA - In the Apple store.
The Android RTA - On App Brain
They are both free. They both do give you baseline measurements which are useful. Thanks Ben Milne, Pat Rosenthal, and ICIX for providing the insight.
The next time your stressing out about your frequency response just grab your smart phone and see whats what.
If you are not familiar with the term RTA this link is very helpful : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Time_Analyzer

I’ve played around with this a lot and found that doing the baseline reading is necessary to get the most accurate reading but overall the factory baseline is accurate on the evo. It will do better with single tones at lower volumes to get accurate. Overall it works great for a free app and could help find a missing frequency in your setup.

I used the iPhone one on Saturday. It’s certainly accurate enough to give you a starting point. I like it more than the paid app I used previously.

Its cool to see that some of you have used them, or at least tried to use them.
Pat, did you use yours in the Impala?

Hey Alex, I did use it in my impala and with a relatively flat baseline reading my stereo had a peak in the highs that i guessed was there. Seems like it was fairly on but i never got a chance to run the RTA to compare results.
