And full steam ahead indeed! The past couple of weeks (and weekends) have been interesting, including packing pallets ready to ship overseas, taking the EL8.3t’s for a little road trip to Des Moines, and finalizing production on the newly announced DL series. Let’s begin!
Fun Install
Our friends Christian and Tom at Palisade Systems had us do a temporary install on some EL8.3t speakers in their break area. To call this a break area is a little bit of an understatement. I dont know to many places with audiophile grade tower speakers, a pool table and dart board. That is correct, I did say a pool table. We hope you guys really enjoy the speakers as much as we do.
The fine people at Palisade Systems had been using a tiny speaker box to fill their large room. It got the job done, but oooh boy are they in for a treat.

The setup.

We had been very limited by power outlets, and felt this to be the best place. It allowed for moving the speakers around a little bit, but they are not in the way.
The final results.

What little bit we did get to listen to them, I was certainly surprised with the extension they had in such a large area. That was also on a lower listening volume. I can not wait to hear a little bit of feedback from the crew at Palisade.
Production in Iowa
On the production front, we are starting to ship the DL series speakers this week. The DL series are our newest in house produced speaker line. More information on the products and cabinet design can be seen here.
Cabinet Overview
Product Overview
Here we have some DL6.t and DL6.b’s out of paint.

These are some DL6.t’s waiting for their final coat in paint. You can see the items are sanded in between paint layers to remove any imperfections, and allow the next layer to properly adhere.

Here we have a batch of the DL6.b and DL6.cc’s.

These pictures all show the DL series without the cosmetic faces that the drivers mount onto. The driver baffles are painted separately and then mounted to the cabinet afterward. Increasing the overall thickness of the of the baffle reduces unwanted cabinet resonance.
Fun Stuff
We had a friend from Ames, IA stop in a couple weeks ago. He brought down his old JBL cabinets that had seen better days. He removed the handles, drivers, grills, and old dingy carpet. This left us with a fairly clean canvas. A little bit of our matte paint later and we have this.

Thank you Chris for letting us work on something that we don’t get to see every day.
Fact of the day - In a full production week, we have been known to cut through upwards of 100 sheets of EFS. Using EFS instead of MDF, that is a lot less harmful toxins being introduced into the environment. That is almost three football fields long.
Here is a mid week shipment of just 3/4″ EFS. We also stock 1/2″ and 1″, with the availability to get 1.25″ for custom projects.

What does 66 sheets of flat pack speakers look like?
A whole lot of wood, thats what. Here we have an international partner’s order. Look for more information on this soon.

They have intentions on putting four A7-900’s into their demo room, and to think we felt insane for doing a pair two years ago at our annual open house. For size reference, that is a 50″ TV.

On a final note, those who have an A5-350 currently on pre-order will be receiving important information about their order by the end of the week. Stay tuned!
